Board of Trustees Vacancy

Rampart Library District Board of Trustee applications are currently being accepted due to a vacancy on the Board. An applicant must be a registered voter in the Teller County RE-2 School District and have lived in the District for at least one year.

Trustees serve on a volunteer basis and are appointed to the board for a 3-year term. Board members of the Rampart Library District meet the second Tuesday of the month at 2:00 p.m., usually at the Woodland Park Public Library.

What Does a Library Trustee Do?

A trustee works with other members of the board as a “governing body.”  The Board of Trustees sets policies and establishes long range goals, while also representing Rampart Library District in public.  Trustees do not make management and operations decisions, nor do they work unilaterally. Instead, they collaborate with the entire board to establish an overarching framework, by which the director can successfully distribute library services to citizens and communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with other Trustees and administration to shape policy
  • Hiring and evaluating a director
  • Empowering the director to run the district and the libraries
  • Attending regular meetings, special meetings, and planning sessions
  • Keeping informed about issues that are important to the library
  • Adhering to the Trustee Code of Ethics, Bylaws, and relevant state or federal laws
  • Representing and advocating for Rampart Library District in the community
  • Participating in educational opportunities to increase effectiveness as a board member and library representative.

Trustees must reside within the legal service area of the library district.  The RLD service area encompasses all properties within the boundaries of Woodland Park School District Re-2 in the northern half of Teller County.  Colorado law limits library trustees to “volunteer” status, so this position is unpaid.  However, abundant compensation comes in the form of improving the lives of fellow citizens through the library district.    Applicants are evaluated and appointed by the RLD Board of Trustees.  Contact Director Tim Miller at 719-987-9281 (ext. 101) or for details.

Selected applicants will be given an opportunity to interview with the Library Board. Interested persons who wish to serve should fill out the application and return to either library branch Attn.: Sherry Carr, Board Chair c/o Tim Miller, Library Director.

Open until filled.
