Policy Statement
Rampart Library District encourages giving from private individuals, corporations, and foundations in order to supplement normal library funds and resources. These gifts are used to enhance the services and materials provided to library patrons.
Donations to the Collection
Rampart Library District will accept donations of books and other media if the Florissant or Woodland Park Libraries can make use of these materials as additions to the collection or book sale items. Management and administration reserves the right to refuse item donations for any reason.
Guidelines
- Only “gently used” materials in good to excellent condition will be accepted. Donated books should not be musty, moldy, dirty or in disrepair.
- Donations become the property of the library.
- Donated items may be added to the collection, put in the book sale, donated to another organization or disposed of at the District’s discretion.
- Receipts are available for tax purposes but library staff cannot place a value on donated materials.
- The library accepts donations during scheduled weekday business hours.
- No guarantee can be made that a gift will remain a permanent part of the collection.
- Items that cannot be accepted include catalogs, magazines (including National Geographic), videos with NC-17 or X ratings, encyclopedias, textbooks over 5 years old, items containing outdated information, Readers’ Digest condensed books and outdated media that cannot be used on current equipment (such as 78 and 45 records, 8 track tapes, cassette tapes, and filmstrips), and non-book items.
- Book plates acknowledging the donor cannot be put in donated materials.
Monetary Donations
Monetary donations are always accepted and welcomed, but the use of such funds is at the discretion of the District unless a pre-arranged, designated purpose has been approved by the Board and/or Director. Purchases for approved designated purposes will only be made after funds have been collected by the District. The District will not make purchases with donor intent to reimburse.
Artwork Donations
The mission of Rampart Library District is, “Growing minds, connections, and creativity to build our community.” Within this context, the purpose of art in the library is:
- To provide citizens with the opportunity to enjoy art during their visit to RLD locations.
- To enhance the library environment
- To enrich and support local culture.
The Director or a director-appointed staff member reserves the right to accept or refuse art for any reason.
Adopt a Title
The Adopt a Tile program in honor of a child allows the child to paint a tile that will be placed on a wall in the Children’s Activity Room. By paying a fee of $25 and making an appointment, a parent/guardian may bring a child to the library where the child will paint a tile for the wall in the children’s area. The intent is to keep the tiles on the wall in perpetuity but the library cannot guarantee that this will happen in case of unforeseen future circumstances.
Concerns about the Donations Policy must be presented in writing with specifics to the Library Director. Please provide your name and contact information. The Library District may amend or supplement this policy from time to time and reserves the right to do so.
Approved 10/21/2006. Revised 05/09/2017 and 07/12/2023
Materials Donation Guidelines
Thank you for thinking of the Rampart Library District for donations. Please contact the Woodland Park Circulation Manager or Florissant Branch Manager for donation information prior to bringing materials to the library. RLD’s space for donated items is limited. Management and administration reserve the right to refuse donations for any reason.
Donated materials must be in excellent condition, and they must meet specific criteria to be accepted by the library. Potential donations must be delivered to either the Woodland Park Public Library or the Florissant Public Library.
Materials may be added to the library’s collection, sold, offered to other organizations, or disposed of at the library’s discretion. Due to space limitations, we cannot accept more than 2 boxes or bags without an appointment. Please do not drop donations in the book drop. We are unable to appraise donated materials, but can offer you a receipt for tax purposes. Donations become the property of the library. Thank You!
